Being in the middle of the scene is always a new sensation for all of us. Telling the right story depends from a well planning and a well known subject.
If your questions are: How to work in quick situations? How to approach the subject? How do I can planning a story? you reached the right place.
Together with my colleague Katharina Bodmann, we will live a very incredible adventure in Italy by covering the Easter traditional celebration of “Vattienti” developing a story with emotional and impressive images.
Vattienti are penitens which during the Holy Friday and Saturday run in the Southern Italian village of Nocera Terinese, by scourging their legs in sign of thankfulness for a received grace or to request one.
In this situation full of colors, visually impactful, and emotional, Katharina and me, will collaborate with each participant photographer as they work on their individual stories, most specifically in the storytelling and editing process, by documenting the entire celebration. This workshop will be an intuitive journey, where the aim is the photographers leave feeling inspired, changed, expanded in both their photography and life. It is an interior trip searching the essence than the pragmatic of photography.
After the workshop registration, the work begins with 2 remote meetings between the participant photographers and Antonino and Katharina email/Skype for a prior study and planning of the story. This is an important side of the work as we want to make sure you arrive able to dive into the creation process. The research phase is an important process of the work that allow you to deeply enter in the theme.
It is expected that each photographer arrives in Italy (Lamezia Terme International Aiport SUF.) on April 01-2021 the latest, ( to facilitate the transfers we will try to be there at the same time) though we suggest you to arrive at least one day before. On April -02-2021, at 9,00 AM we will meet at the workshop venue (Hotel) where we will start to develop the workshop’s arguments, included a complete planning of the story. At 4,00 PM, we will move to the Village of Nocera Terinese for the night celebration. Expect long days or nights of work. The process of story creation is so trilling that at times you won’t notice how fast time goes by.
Editing of photographs will be hosted at the workshop venue during the day and late evenings, depending on your return from the field. Editing is done both individually with group, a fascinating learning experience for all when witnessing how each photographer’s images evolve throughout the course of the workshop, into a completed story.
Antonino and Katharina review and discuss the photography you create each day, giving you insight and suggestions for your story narrative and the flow, so that the same evening or next day you continue expanding your story. By the end of the workshop, depending on your engagement and story concept, you will have a 20-50 image completed essay. On the day of the April 4th 2021, each photographer will discuss the unique aspects of their completed work to all attending the workshop.
This will be a stunning evening where each photographer will learn something new not only about their own work but also the work of their colleagues. During this workshop we will not discuss the fundamentals of photography. Participants must know the basis of taking pictures and must have their own equipment. (Camera/s – Lenses – Batteries – Chargers – Memory Cards – Cards Reader – Computer – Pen – Agenda.)
